You can't blame Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks for wanting the safest playing conditions possible.

Well, that's what San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle just advocated for, as he sent a strong message to the NFL over their use of turf fields. After watching the league's stadiums cater to the ongoing World Cup, allowing FIFA to swap out turf for the more favorable grass surfaces, the All-Pro pass catcher demanded the same type of consideration for the American footballers.

Brooks reposted Kittle's callout via his Instagram account on Friday . . .

Brooks and Kittle are on the road to recovery from non-contact injuries, both of which were sustained at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. The former tore his ACL in the middle of the 2024 campaign and the latter tore his Achilles in this past season's wild-card round.

While Philly does use grass for their NFL games, Carolina and San Francisco do not. And that's been a persistent topic of conversation for Panthers players—who have, as far back as 2022, talked to owner David Tepper about Bank of America Stadium's turf. (In fact, Bank of America Stadium did roll out the grass carpet for Gold Cup matches in 2023.)

According to data from the NFL Players Association, players have a 28-percent higher rate of non-contact lower extremity injuries when on turf. The NFLPA also conducted a recent survey that noted players “prefer playing on natural grass as opposed to synthetic turf.”

This is an especially pertinent issue for Brooks—who has suffered through not one, but two ACL tears. His setbacks have limited him to just three games over his first two NFL campaigns.
