The Carolina Panthers only got through two of their three mandatory minicamp sessions—but it certainly wasn't for a lack of trying.
As announced this morning, the team canceled their third and final session of camp for Thursday. Instead, they offered up some media availability, and head coach Dave Canales explained the reasoning behind that decision . . .
Canales had told reporters the afternoon prior that he "ordered up" a couple of "hot" practices for his players on both Tuesday and Wednesday. So, their early end to minicamp seems to be a reward for their hard work.
With this phase now complete, the Panthers are now set for their annual "summer break." Per Canales, they'll reconvene for training camp on Wednesday, July 22—an earlier start than usual due to their upcoming participation in this year's Hall of Fame Game.
That exhibition, the very first of the NFL preseason, will see them take on the Arizona Cardinals from Canton, Ohio on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Carolina is also expected to take part in joint practices with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans—their opponents in Weeks 2 and 3 of the preseason, respectively.

Dave Canales said he challenged players on Tuesday to ramp up the energy. Felt like they answered the call. So an early close to minicamp before "the hardest (training) camp they've ever had."
Hall of Fame game. Two joint practices. Three other preseason games.
