There may be no denying that former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is the greatest of all-time. But that doesn't necessarily mean his commentary on the game is flawless.

Brady's recent (and perhaps somewhat ignorant) comments about practice-squad members have stirred up some interesting conversation. The future Hall of Famer insinuated that the players don't want to experience the grind it takes to be a regular on an active roster.

“They’re very happy living this life where they could tell their family and friends (they play for an NFL team) — which I have no problem with that,” Brady said. “You would just assume, though, that if you’re on the practice squad, you’d want to be at the top. But the reality is a lot of guys don’t want the pressure of dealing with the top.”

Geez.

That take has drawn the ire of a few individuals—including Carolina Panthers cornerback Mike Jackson.

"He never spent a day on practice squad," Jackson stated, via Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer. "I went and Googled just to make sure... For you to sit there and say, ‘Well, all practice squad guys, they don’t want the pressure.’ Nah... You’re giving us a bad name when you weren’t us. That’s like me saying that winning a Super Bowl doesn’t change your life. I can’t say that; I’ve never won a Super Bowl! So that struck a nerve.”

Jackson, who has worked his way up from a practice-squad "guy" to one of the NFL's top corners, has every right to be offended. Brady's remarks could be especially disappointing given his impact and standing within the league.

It's easy to forget, but Brady's success was never guaranteed at this level. He came into the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick, and wasn't exactly heralded as a future star. If Drew Bledsoe hadn't gotten injured when he did, Brady's career arc could have wound up looking very different.

Brady deserves credit for everything he's accomplished, but it doesn't give him the right to impune the motivation of less-fortunate athletes than himself.
