Per NFL rules, the Green Bay Packers are allowed to host up to 30 draft-eligible players (excluding “local” prospects, such as those in the UW system or nearby regional schools such as Northern Illinois) for in-person visits. The Journal Sentinel is tracking the visits and supplying profiles based on information from sources and published reports.
GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers always are looking for big receivers.
They are interested in one who can run, too.
Georgia State’s Ted Hurst has caught their eye and they are scheduled to bring him on a top-30 pre-draft visit this month, according to a league source.
Hurst began at Division II Valdosta State, where he started 20 games and caught 60 passes for 1,027 yards and 10 touchdowns. After two seasons there, he transferred to Georgia State and made himself known in the Sun Belt conference.
A second-team selection in ’24 and a first-team selection in ’25, Hurst caught 127 passes for 1,965 yards and 15 touchdowns in his final two college seasons.
Hurst had two games of 10 or more catches and more than 100 yards
The combination of being 6-foot-4 and 208 pounds and having a 4.42-second 40-yard dash are big plusses. The fact he played against lesser competition will be a strike against him, although scouts undoubtedly will study his monster game of seven catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to Vanderbilt last season.
Georgia State won just one game last season, but Hurst managed to have four 100-yard receiving games and seven games of seven or more receptions. He got a chance to show what he could do playing with and against better talent at the Senior Bowl.
“I know who I am and I know my game,” Hurst said at the NFL scouting combine. “I felt I did good [at the Senior Bowl]. A lot of coaches let me know I did well.”
The Packers are one of about 10 teams who are trying to get to know Hurst better. As it stands now, he should be an early third-day pick, although it’s possible someone will reach for him at the end of the second day.
The Packers will want to know if he can block, which will be a big adjustment for him after being a prime passing target.
Hurst did not do any kick or punt returning at Valdosta State or Georgia State.
