Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that quarterback Jordan Love -- who was concussed 11 days ago in Chicago -- remains in the league's concussion protocol as of Wednesday.
LaFleur said Love would practice again on Wednesday but has not yet been cleared to play. The return-to-participation protocol is five stages long and requires passing for a player to play in a game.
Love was injured on a helmet-to-helmet hit by Chicago Bears defensive end Austin Booker on Saturday, Dec. 20. He missed the rest of the game and entered the league's concussion protocol, but Love was able to practice in a limited capacity during all three practices last week.
LaFleur said the Packers planned on Love playing against the Baltimore Ravens but he did not clear protocol in time.
It's possible now that Love will miss 2.5 games before the Packers open the postseason next week.
"I wouldn't say it's ideal, but it's the circumstance," LaFleur said. "It just is what it is. Some things are out of our control. We would have loved to have him play versus Baltimore, but that wasn't the case. Shoot, we planned for it for the majority of the week in regards to how we allocated the reps, and he's out there. And he didn't clear."
LaFleur said he hasn't made a decision on whether or not Love will play against the Minnesota Vikings in the regular season finale, but he did say some starters will rest. Love is almost certainly part of the group that wouldn't play, regardless of whether or not he clears concussion protocol.
LaFleur said backup quarterback Malik Willis will also practice on Wednesday despite aggravating a right shoulder injury against the Ravens. The Packers are signing Desmond Ridder to the practice squad on Wednesday, so LaFleur will have both Ridder and Clayton Tune as options at quarterback entering the final regular season game.
The Packers are locked into the No. 7 seed in the NFC playoff field and will play either the Chicago Bears or Philadelphia Eagles on the road to open the postseason.
