At the start of the new league year on Wednesday afternoon, the Green Bay Packers officially announced the trade sending edge rusher Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys. As previously reported, the compensation coming back to the Packers is a fourth-round pick in the 2027 draft.
There was some marginal concern regarding the trade in the aftermath of the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas canceling a trade sending Maxx Crosby to the Ravens, given the Cowboys' interest in Crosby, but the Gary trade was processed and both the Packers and Cowboys announced the trade within the first hour of the new league year.
The Packers thanked Gary, a 2019 first-round pick, for his seven seasons in Green Bay.
From general manager Brian Gutekunst: "We want to thank Rashan for his commitment and hard work during his seven seasons with the Packers. His impact was felt both on the field and in the locker room and was key to the success of the six playoff teams that he was a part of in Green Bay. He worked incredibly hard to return from a significant knee injury sustained in 2022 and continued to be an impactful player for us once he was back on the field. We're appreciative for all that he gave to our team, and we wish Rashan nothing but the best in the future."
Over seven seasons in Green Bay, Gary produced 46.5 sacks and 111 quarterback hits while playing in 106 games. He was a Pro Bowler in 2024.
The trade cleared $11 million off the Packers' salary cap in 2026. Gary will join former Packers defensive lineman Kenny Clark in Dallas.
