The Green Bay Packers are hiring former Arizona Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon as the team's new defensive coordinator, according to reporting from Adam Schefter of ESPN and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Gannon, who coordinated the Philadelphia Eagles defense for two seasons (2021-22) before leading the Cardinals for three seasons (2023-25), will replace Jeff Hafley as the Packers defensive coordinator entering 2026.

Gannon did not call plays for the Cardinals defense over the last three seasons, but he will return to a playcalling role in Green Bay. While with the Eagles, Gannon coordinated a defense that led the NFL in sacks and helped the Eagles advance to the Super Bowl in 2022. Philadelphia was defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII by a final score of 38-35.

Under Gannon, the Cardinals gave up the third most points in the NFL between 2023 and 2025. Arizona finished 15-36 over three seasons, and Gannon was fired on Jan. 5. In December of 2025, the Cardinals fined Gannon $100,000 after a sideline confrontation with running back Emari Demarcado following a costly fumble.

In 2022, the Eagles ranked second in yards allowed and eighth in points allowed. However, the Cardinals never finished higher than 21st in yards allowed or 15th in points allowed during the last three seasons, including 27th placed finish in yards allowed and 29th placed finish in points allowed in 2025.
