Former Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green announced Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson's disease during an appearance on Tyler Dunne’s “Go Long“ podcast.
Green, who turned 49 years old in February, is Green Bay’s all-time leading rusher. He last played for the team in 2009. Green spent eight of his 12 seasons with the Packers, racking up 8,322 of his 9,205 career rushing yards in the green and gold. Green also holds the franchise record for most rushing yards in a single game and season.
According to Green, he experienced mild symptoms after retiring from football in 2011. He then started to experience short-term memory loss and walking and talking in his sleep, leading him to consult doctors, who officially diagnosed him in January 2025.
Currently, there is no cure for Parkinson’s disease. It is a progressive brain disorder that damages dopamine-producing neurons and causes symptoms including tremor, stiffness, slow movement, and non-movement issues like depression or sleep issues.
Green said his goal is to try to stay ahead of the disease by staying focused on his health.
"I got the reins," he said. "I'm in control. I'm not going to let this control me. There is some medicines that I've been taking from the doctor's side of it, so I made sure [to stay] on my protocol there, but on my side, the food is my medicine.”
