INDIANAPOLIS -- The internet leaks were real. The Pacers are bringing back pinstripes to their uniform palate as part of their gold "Statement" jerseys, as they announced their return on their social media accounts and team website Thursday morning.

"Gold has always signaled the biggest moment in Pacers basketball," a statement on the website reads. "Now it takes center stage in a new Statement Edition, bringing with it the return of an icon. The pinstripes that defined one of the greatest eras in franchise history are back, reimagined for today's team and the next generation of Pacers basketball. A new statement, built from an unmistakable part of who we are."

The Pacers wore pinstripes on multiple uniforms from 1997-2005, a stretch of eight playoff seasons that included three trips to the Eastern Conference Finals and their first NBA Finals run in 2000. They initially wore pinstripes on white and navy blue jerseys and then brought in a gold pinstriped jersey as an alternative option in 1998.

The new Statement uniform closely resembles that alternative uniform but there are noticeable differences. The word "Indiana" is arched across the front of the jersey, but the font is slightly different and continues to match the one used on the gold Statement jerseys in recent years. On the old alternative jerseys, there were sizable blue stripes running along both sides of the jersey and shorts. On the new statement jerseys, there is only a stripe on the left side. It's much smaller and on the shorts it bends around a Pacers logo fashioned in the shape of the state of Indiana. Also, on the bottom left corner of the jersey are the words "Boom Baby," an ode to the catch phrase of Bobby "Slick" Leonard, the Pacers long-time coach and then color commentator.

According to the website, the jerseys will be available for purchase on Sept. 1.

"The new Statement Edition carries the spirit of a defining era forward," another statement on the website reads. "not by recreating the past, but by giving it a bold new expression in Pacers gold."
