The Dodgers shocked the baseball world by signing Kyle Tucker to a four-year, $240 million contract this week, making him the highest-paid player in baseball by average annual value.

The Dodgers shocked no one by designating Michael Siani for assignment in a corresponding roster move. Siani was claimed off waivers in December, weeks after the Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series. With Tucker in tow, Siani was a spare part.

The 26-year-old outfielder didn’t wait long to find a new home. Friday, Siani was claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees.

Earlier today, the Yankees claimed OF Michael Siani off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have designated RHP Kaleb Ort for assignment.

Days after the Yankees agreed to terms with outfielder Cody Bellinger on a five-year, $162.5 million contract, Siani was added to a potentially crowded outfield.

A career .221/.277/.270 hitter for the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals, Siani is considered a defensive specialist in center field.

The Atlanta Braves claimed Siani off waivers from the Cardinals on Nov. 6, then designated him for assignment a month later.

Thursday, the Yankees claimed outfielder Marco Luciano off waivers from the Orioles. Expect either Luciano or Siani to be the odd man out once Bellinger’s contract becomes official.

If Siani is cut again, the Yankees might become the third team he’s joined this offseason without ever logging an inning for them on the field.
