NORMAN — OU football has landed its kicker.
UTSA transfer Tate Sandell has signed with the Sooners, according to multiple reports. Following a disappointing spring at kicker, the position was a major priority for OU in the spring portal.
Sandell made 19 of 23 field goal attempts last season, which included a career-best 54-yarder. He handled kickoffs and set a school record with 62 touchbacks. Sandell joins Liam Evans and Austin Welch at kicker.
"I like the best version I saw with punting (this spring) and kicking was good," head coach Brent Venables said at the Crimson Combine. "And the worst version was not good. So, still uneven, still a battle going into the summer."
Sandell is the Sooners' fourth portal acquisition this spring, joining Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula, Cal running back Jaydn Ott and Utah State defensive lineman Siolaa Ricky Lolohea.
