NORMAN — Oklahoma baseball is adding to its coaching staff.

Fresh off a national title, coach Skip Johnson is hiring his son, Tyler, in an assistant role on the Sooners' coaching staff, D1Baseball reported Thursday night.

Tyler served as Dallas Baptist's recruiting coordinator and assistant coach this past season. Before that, he served as the head coach at McLennan Community College, where he was also previously an assistant.

Over his six years at McLennan, 44 players earned all-conference honors, and seven were selected in the MLB Draft. In one year with the Patriots, he helped develop five All-Conference USA selections.

Minutes after OU's national championship celebration at Kimrey Family Stadium ended on June 24, Sooners recruiting coordinator and former player Todd Butler took the same role at Florida.

Johnson brings a strong recruiting pedigree to Norman.
