EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Baseball seems to be in Logan Brown’s DNA.
“I just think I love baseball a little bit too much sometimes,” says Otter’s Catcher, Mater Dei Baseball Assistant Coach Logan Brown.
It’s a passion that began back at Mt. Vernon blossomed into a long-playing career with USI, the Atlanta Braves and now the Evansville Otters.
“We were throwing BP out here in February two years ago, I could just tell his energy and his love for the game even back then,” says Otters Manager Andy McCauley.
But stirring in the background was another love: coaching.

“Growing up, my dad was able to do that for me, and I want to do that for the younger generation around Evansville, Mt. Vernon, wherever it is,” says Brown.
As the field general behind the dish, leading can come naturally.
“Sometimes we do have to rein him back in a little bit because we want him focusing on having success on the field as a player,” says McCauley.
So, when a fellow USI teammate became the main man at Mater Dei, Brown jumped on the opportunity.
“I shot him a text, and I had some free time early on in the season and he was like, ‘yeah come on out and help anyway possible,’” says Brown.
Wildcats hunt for redemption at Victory Field
With the Wildcats, working with catchers and hitters wasn’t just an early season commitment. The Cats played well into June winning their second state title in school history, making Brown’s schedule of being a dad, player and coach quite hectic.
“It’s been crazy,” says Brown. “I’m definitely staying busy. I don’t like to sit at home and do nothing.”
“Obviously, if you get a chance like that you have to pursue it,” says McCauley. “I was happy for him to be there for those kids and help them throughout the year. We gave him a little leeway.”
Still, even with the hectic schedule, Brown wouldn’t change a thing.
“Seeing how much joy baseball brings to them, that to me is self-explanatory for why I love it,” says Brown.
