You knew they weren't telling the whole story on this one and it's finally coming out. He was in a serious car accident near his home on July 14th. Early reporting was no drugs or alcohol involved and he had broken hand, nose, 3 ribs and needed 40 stitches. Obviously much o that was the airbag deploying and smacking him in the face. Also has a severe concussion.
Today he explained he lost his phone between the seats, looked down to find it and took his eyes off the road for too long, went over a "line" (I assume he means intersection) and hit an SUV. The original reporting said the girl he hit was at fault, he made sure that's corrected it was entirely HIS fault.
He's going to miss the entire training camp. Chris Simms is reporting it was bad enough they at one point thought Shanahan might lose an eye. Apparently the severity of it and that it happened in Palo Alto led o the media either not finding out right away or not reporting it right away there's some criticism in the Bay area that they held back the story to protect him. He also is apparently denying earlier reports that his Tesla was in FSD at the time of the accident he says he was driving not the car.
Posting the initial report because as the kids would say it's very SUS that they blamed the other driver and so blatantly, and it turns out he was at fault

Public records from the California Crash Reporting System, a statewide database of collisions, show the accident occurred at 6:12 p.m. PT at Alma Street and Hamilton Avenue after a 21-year-old woman made an unsafe turn while driving a Mercedes SUV in the opposite direction on a four-lane, 25-mph street. (h/t the San Francisco Chronicle's Noah Furtado and Eric Branch)
Shanahan was driving south on Alma Street, while the other driver was headed north.
The records also show that Shanahan was holding and using a cellphone at the time, which authorities listed as a factor in the accident, but stated that he was not at fault for the wreck.
