OT: Eagles Release WR Josh Huff

Don't know how closely any of you are following this story but Eagles WR Josh Huff got pulled over on the Jersey side of the Walt Whitman bridge(a bridge I've been over a million times) for speeding. When the cop approached his vehicle, the car reeked of weed. Huff handed over a small amount of weed and told the cop he had a loaded magazine with hollow points and a handgun in the car that wasn't licensed in NJ or Pa. Yesterday they had a press conference about the incident and he sounded like it was no big deal to him(the gun charge alone carries a minimum 3 year sentence). Well, today, the Eagles released him. Some believe it was because of his attitude toward guns(I really hope this isn't the case). Being a gun owner I ca understand his ownership of a gun but smoking weed while driving and having the gun is stupidity in it's highest degree. Do I think he deserved to be released? Well, that's up to the team but there is worse behavior that goes unpunished. I'll be interested to see if Huff is treated the same as Shaneen Allen, a woman with a CC permit in Pa but not in NJ who the prosecutor wanted to send away for 5 years over.

If the weapons charge is a minimum of a three-year sentence, then why keep him on the team? I mean, I get that he hasn't been convicted yet, but with all the other factors involved, I think the Eagles made the right move.

And I do NOT miss traveling over the Walt Whitman.

Huff was pulled over for speeding at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, according to CSN Philly. Police “found a gun, loaded magazine and less than 50 grams of marijuana,” the story said. Huff was charged for unlawful possession of a weapon and for having hollow point bullets, marijuana possession, a DUI, speeding and obstructed view for tinted windows, CSN Philly reported.

Huff said he has a license for the gun in Texas, but New Jersey doesn’t honor that license. He admitted to not knowing enough about New Jersey’s gun laws.

Not the brightest guy. Thankfully this ended in a traffic stop rather than an accident where someone got hurt or killed. SMH.

"Whats the big deal? Its a constitutional right to carry a gun."

Technically true. But if everything were by the book, then we wouldnt have judges. Somebody would get in trouble and youd just crack open the "punishment book" like an encyclopedia and sentence them. But we do have judges because we need to be able to see the forest AND the trees...

He wasnt carrying a gun because he's a huuuge fan of the 2nd amendment.

He had a gun because hes a young african american athlete, and carrying guns is "cool" in their culture.

Guys like him are the reason why theres a 38% murder rate in chicago.

I think that having a gun while being on drugs is a big no no. As a medical marijuana card holder I gave up my rights to own a gun. Probably bs, but I also have no desire to own a gun so whatever.

Unless you are a young African American athlete who has family in Chicago (to make that comment about the city), you need to hold back about your assumptions regarding an individual (who is from Texas, which might even suggest an actual appreciation of the second amendment). I agree there is a cultural aspect in certain pockets of the black community where that view of owning a gun is prevalent, but one cannot throw an opinion that harsh around haphazardly... anyone who judges an individual by certain tendencies existing in the masses is a an idiot

Lets just stick to the facts here:

Carrying a loaded gun in which he did not have a legal permit for in the state he was in. NJ doesn't honor the Texas permit and I don't think PA does either. If you bring a gun in from another state I would think it is common sense to check to see if you need to acquire a permit for the state you're going to. If you don't, you are a *******.
The gun was loaded with hollow points - Apparently illegal in NJ, not sure about PA but I suspect it's illegal there too.
He apparently was smoking weed while driving - Illegal in most states
He was DUI - Illegal in most states
He had Weed in the car with him - Illegal in most states
He was speeding - Illegal in all states
His windows were tinted too dark - Illegal in NJ and PA.

Seems to me he racked up a whole lot of no no's in short order. Seems to me the Eagles did the smart thing.

That's what I was going to say. He actually told us why he had it and using his own words, "what professional athlete doesn't own a gun?" Also, he stated that he owns a gun to protect his family. The previous statement was regarding his carrying the thing. Being black doesn't play in it at all. However, if you're going to smoke weed and drive(both offenses are against the CBA and are punishable offenses but only a game or 2 or as high as 4 as a first offense), you might want to leave the firearm at home. As I stated above, I'm authorized to carry an off duty weapon(which I've yet to do with the exception of going to and from work), I would never dream of carrying it if I'm going to be consuming alcohol(it's also forbidden per department policy). That's what's going to hang him, the weapons charge.

NJ doesn't honor the Texas permit and I don't think PA does either.

Texas and Pa. do have reciprocal CC agreements.

I don't believe the gun itself was loaded but he had a loaded magazine with hollow points. Per NJ 2C:39-3.f says "(1) Any person, other than a law enforcement officer or persons engaged in activities pursuant to subsection f. of N.J.S. 2C:39-6, who knowingly has in his possession any hollow nose or dum-dum bullet...is guilty of a crime of the fourth degree."(A $10K fine and or up to 18 months in prison) The weapons offense is the more serious offense(3rd degree crime up to 3-5 years in prison). The fact that he was in possession of and smoking weed while in possession makes it even more serious(2nd degree crime between 5-10 years in prison). I'm pretty sure Pre Trial Intervention can be offered for 3rd and 4th degree crimes but I'm almost certain they don't for 2nd degree so it's going to be interesting to see what exactly he can be charged with.

Don't know if this was determined. He was arrested and detained. I'm too lazy to look it up. Did they do a blood test? A piss test wouldn't show anything right off unless he's an habitual smoker.

If they charge him with what they can, he'd be in deep doo doo and with Midstate Correctional Facility being turned into a drug treatment facility(used to house famous inmates and law enforcement personnel. Jayson Williams was housed here), there's a good chance he might end up at my facility if convicted.

It's NJ. The same state that says if someone breaks into your home and you have a means of egress, you have to leave and let the scumbag have at your house. If you shoot a home invader, you're the one who will go to jail. Liberal policies at their best. Frankly if someone breaks into my house, if they get past my dogs, their last memory will be either the muzzle flash or the sound of my tactical shotgun racking. As for hollow points, it's strange that a private citizen can't use them because unlike FMJ rounds, there's no danger of the round going through the person you're shooting. But, again, the People's Republic of NJ doesn't want you hurting the criminals. And don't get me started on how they coddle prison inmates.
