Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith Jr. was arrested in Georgia on speeding and reckless driving charges after allegedly going 135 mph.

The Twiggs County Sheriff's Office said they clocked Smith driving 135 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone on the interstate on Friday, May 15, at 10:41 p.m. local time, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

The Georgia Gazette was first to report the news.

After posting bond, the 25-year-old player was released about an hour after he was booked, police told the outlet.

His court case is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, however, if he pays the fines associated with the tickets, he will not need to appear in court, the sheriff's office reportedly told ESPN.

The Twiggs County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for additional information.

Smith grew up in Savannah, Georgia and stayed in the state for college, going on to play for the Georgia Bulldogs. He won two national championships with the team before getting drafted by the Eagles in 2023.

During his first three years in Philadelphia, Smith played 45 games for the Eagles, recording 91 total tackles, including 46 solo tackles, along with 10.5 sacks and 25 quarterback hits during his NFL career, according to his player profile.

The linebacker's most productive season was in 2024 when he finished the regular season with 6.5 sacks, before winning the Super Bowl with the team in a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
