That kinda sucks. I mean dont get me wrong it was kinda funny but there's no need to spit on people in the gutter when you're on top of the world.

I just dont get why AP would need to rip a guy so savagely when it's ancient history and you've already won. Unless Leinart was a real ******* back then. In which case HAHA

There are a lot of ugly stories that have come out about him in college and as a pro.

I know a girl who dated Mike Williams while they were at USC. She told me that when they would go to parties with Leinart, he definitely epitomized the persona of "douche bag starting QB" and treated everyone like crap. Matty should feel lucky that Twitter didn't exist while he was in college.

As a Cardinal, he proved to be a poor leader and teammate; and in my eyes, one of the most mentally weak NFL players ever.

I see nothing funny about this story. What I do see is further evidence of an ego run amuck (coming on the heels of his I'm clean, I'm clean hear me roar tour). This is pretty classless by AP. Everyone knows that, more often than not, when a QB wins the trophy it's actually a team award. It's never really been about the best football player and it certainly has never been about who will be the best pro.

Does Peterson really think there wasn't a better football player in college the years that guys such as Tim Tebow, Danny Wuerffel, Troy Smith, Gino Torretta, Andre Ware, Gary Beban, Jason White and Charlie Ward won it? He wasn't screwed out of the award, it's a screwy award in the first place. It has to be the most overrated major award in all of sports.

I think Whiz ruined Leinart- like many other QB's that came through AZ, even Kurt had to execute legendary resilience after the late collapse in 2008 before we started to run the EDGE again. MNM didn't help Matty under Denny either.

I think AP would have died on the vine on a last place rushing attempt and yardage team.

Matt backed up a NCAAC win- won 2 and lost another in the last minute- 4 NCAAC games - hmmm - many pac 10 and NCAA records- Hmmm- 2 tds in the first 1/4 of his 1st 2 NFL starts- matty did many things right before whisenhunt burnt his damn house down.

Nine years later and AP is still bitter. Add to that he was a FRESHMEN. They don't give the Heisman to FRESHMEN. I guess he just doesn't get it. He could of had 2000 yards, scored 30 TDs and he still wouldn't have gotten it.

Big ego, small brain.

9 years later and I'm still bitter we drafted Levi instead of AP. I think AP is exactly right and I find it funny as hell that he is calling Matt out. By the way, a Freshman did win the Heisman last year, so that arguement doesn't hold water anymore.

I see nothing wrong about what AP said. He is an athlete, a competitor. I guess it smacks of bad sportmanship, but since it involves tHe LeEnaRT, who cares?

I do. A sad tale seeing both those players in the same story. We released Leonard Davis and passed on Adrian Peterson to draft Leonard Davis.

Leinart bombing out gave us 3 seasons of having to watch some of the worst combinations of QBs to ever take the field for an NFL team.

Two major whiffs on 1st round picks in a row. A first round QB and one of the greatest RBs of all time. No wonder the guys responsible are all gone now.

:(

Oh well.

5-11 with 'em. 5-11 without 'em.

Right! And I obviously care because I agree with everything you just said.

Leinart was on a great USC team and had a terrific college career. He was deserving of the Heisman trophy.

So AP thinks it's cool to kick someone when he's down. This is juvenile on many levels. AP was a freshman and at that time, freshmen didn't win the Heisman. Hell, as good as AP's freshman year was, it didn't touch Hershel Walker and he didn't win it. That said, the Heisman is a college award and it doesn't mean that the winner will translate into a good pro. Of course this is the same AP who said that playing in the NFL was slavery so he isn't too intelligent either.

No kidding. Just look at the list of college QBs who have won the Heisman.

Of the 13 QBs who won the Heisman between 1990 and 2009 the one with the best Pro career is our starting QB. :koolaid:

Oof, when I was a college freshman, I was would get mad and hold a grudge at the dumbest things. Being 19 does that.

So it makes sense that AP would still hold a grudge at 28.

Perhaps.

I just wish AP would have shared the deer antler stuff with Leinart to use on his shoulder.

Here is the voting for that year - the numbers are 1st place votes, 2nd place votes, 3rd place votes and total points:

Matt Lienart Jr. USC QB = 267 211 102 1,325
Adrian Peterson Fr. Oklahoma = RB 154 180 175 997
Jason White Sr. Oklahoma QB = 171 149 146 957
Alex Smith Sr. Utah QB 98 112 = 117 635
Reggie Bush So. USC TB 118 80 = 83 597
Cedric Benson Sr. Texas RB 12 = 41 69 187
Jason Campbell Sr. Auburn QB = 21 24 51 162
J. J. Arrington Sr. California RB = 10 33 19 115
Aaron Rodgers Jr. California QB = 8 14 15 67
Braylon Edwards Sr. Michigan WR = 3 13 27 62

I'm waiting for the Aaron Rodgers quote about how not only did they give the award to Lienart some guy named Jason White finished 3rd while Alex Smith finished ahead of him as well as being drafted ahead of him ... not to mention his own teamate finishing ahead of him as well

AP finished well that year - highest placement by a freshman at that time

Not to mention it's a college award & not a "how did they do in the pros" award

There were some good RB performances that year - JJ Arrington put up 2,018 yards averaging 7 ypc with 15 TDs - DeAngelo Williams put up 1948 on 6.2 ypc with 22 TDs and didn't sniff consideration ..... Cedric Benson put up almost the exact YPC as AP (5.6 v 5.7) and scored 19 TDs

Or maybe AP is still bitter about the Orange Bowl - you know the one where he put up 82 yards on 25 carries with a long of 9 yards .... meanwhile LenDale White goes for 118 yards and 2 TDs on 15 carries ..... Reggie Bush was held in check with 75 yards - on 6 carries ...... that Leinart guy went for 330+ yards and 5 TDs

AP really should be seen and not heard

Is it a big deal if AP states he was/is better, college or pro, than all of the above?

Big deal - not necessarily

Incredibly bitter - yeah, especially since he didn't have as good of a college career as some of those guys ........ comes off even more bitter when you take into consideration that he was absolutely stuffed by USC in a game when Matty Mascot threw for an Orange Bowl record 5 TDs ... you think that may have influenced the voters a little AP?

I would say he's upset that not only did they get absolutely ran in that game, lost the national championship, he didn't do squat, USC backs went for close to 200 yards on fewer carries than AP and Lienart sealed the Heisman with a 300 yard and 5 TD day

Again, being upset and complaining isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things - just kind of pointless, very bitter and adds to the long line of "expert commentary" from this guy

You mad, bro? ;)

The teams they were on were different, perhaps? Maybe, kinda? Sorta?

Hence the beauty and subjectivity of college sports awards

His team was flat out not good enough and he was a part of that ... he didn't exactly rise to the occasion in that game either

At least he can comfort himself with a good career, which he should - all in all not bad for a modern day slave ...... maybe he's just jealous that Lienart has cashed in and freed himself from those shackles ;)

Hate on the Leenart all you want, but his college career was the stuff of legends. He totally deserved that Heisman, easily. Dude was a great player in college, and was nails. The Leenart was the NFL QB. The Leenart never played in college. Leinart did, and he rocked the NCAAs face off.

AP is bitter, which is kind of funny. He's got an NFL MVP award ffs, yet he's still weepy about the Heisman that he didn't earn? He should go make some more controversial comments rather than college grudge whining.
