A trip down to Southern California for a stretch of non-conference games wasn't going to slow down the Oregon Ducks' offense.

In a two-game midweek series at UC San Diego, the Ducks hammered five home runs and swept the Tritons with some big performances at the plate.

Oregon took care of business in the first game on Tuesday night, blanking the Tritons on their home field in a 6-0 win, and it felt even more lopsided than that. The Ducks hit three more home runs and only allowed one hit in the evening.

It took the Ducks some time to settle into the game before Jack Brooks blasted a three-run home run off the scoreboard in right field to break the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. Brooks later added an RBI double in the ninth inning to finish the game with four RBI.

Jax Gimenez hit his third home run of the season in the eighth inning to increase Oregon’s lead to 4-0. Gabe Miranda also had a big night with three base hits.

The Ducks were thankful to have shortstop Maddox Molony available for the midweek series after there was some concern surrounding his left hand injury, which he suffered in Sunday’s loss to Northwestern. He was hit by a pitch and had his hand wrapped up before being removed from the game. Fortunately, Molony didn’t miss a beat. He cranked the third home run of the night, a towering shot down the left field line in the ninth inning.

Miles Gosztola earned his second start of the season and twirled a gem. The junior right-hander took a perfect game into the sixth inning and didn’t allow a hit until two outs into the seventh. That was the only hit for UC San Diego in the game. Gosztola finished his night after seven innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out eight and earning his first win of the year.

In game two, the Ducks picked up right where they left off and walked away with a 12-4 win. Drew Smith launched a three-run homer to spark a four-run first inning that sent all nine Oregon batters to the plate. That was Smith's ninth home run of the season. He ended the day with four RBI.

Toby Twist drew the start but ran into trouble early. He issued four free passes in the second inning – two walks and two hit batters – before UC San Diego's Nick Costello hit a two-run triple to right field, cutting Oregon's lead in half. Fortunately, Twist was able to end the inning with the bases loaded and limit the damage.

Twist turned the ball over to the bullpen after 4 ⅓ innings, allowing three hits, three runs and three walks while striking out six.

Freshman catcher Brayden Jaksa responded with a two-run homer in the fourth inning that travelled 447 feet to center field, giving the Ducks a 6-2 lead, and they never looked back. Jaksa finished the day with three RBI.

The Ducks continued to pour it on with a two-run double by Naulivou Lauaki Jr. in the sixth inning. Oregon also got a three-hit day from Ryan Cooney to cap off the midweek sweep.

The Ducks will get a day off, but then they are back in action up the road on Friday, opening a three-game weekend series at UC Santa Barbara (15-7 this season).
