Your Oregon Ducks opened up their NCAA Tournament journey by taking on the Yale Bulldogs on Friday night. And they didn’t waste any time, striking first for three runs in the bottom of the first inning, on a Brayden Jaksa double, a HBP, and a Maddox Molony single, 3-0 Oregon. Both sides would leave runners on base over the next few innings, until the bottom of the 4th, when Ryan Cooney would double home a run, followed by a Drew Smith RBI single a couple batters later, giving the Ducks a commanding 5-0 lead through four innings. Angel Laya would get in on the action in the 5th, singling home another run after a 14 pitch at-bat, to make it 6-0 Ducks.
But two batters into the top of the 6th inning, the Bulldogs would start to climb their way back, cutting the lead to 6-2 on a two-run blast to deep right-field. And then, the 8th inning rolled along, and the game got blown wiiide open. Jaksa doubled home a run, then Burke-Lee Mabeus singled home another, making it 8-2. Then big freshman Naulivou Lauaki Jr. stepped up to crush a 458 foot 3-run homerun, 11-2 Ducks. Then two more would come in on another Ryan Cooney double, and Angel Laya would double to score Cooney, as the Ducks secure a dominant win over Yale, 14-2.
