Finally, the Oregon Ducks have landed a pitcher out of the transfer portal to replace some of the production the baseball program is losing this offseason.

USC right-hander Michael Ebner announced his commitment to the Ducks on Saturday night on social media, marking the fourth transfer and first pitching addition of the offseason for coach Mark Wasikowski. The 6-foot-4 right-hander has started only seven of his 38 career appearances with the Trojans, but he could be a candidate to crack the weekend rotation for Oregon at some point next season.

Unfortunately, Ebner has not been able to pitch consistently in recent years. Before the 2025 season, he broke his hand and cost himself the first few weeks of the season. After tossing 10 ⅓ innings, Ebner left an outing early and missed the rest of the season with an injury. That same injury caused him to miss the entire 2026 season while he recovered from Tommy John surgery. When he suits up for Oregon next season, Ebner will be nearly two years removed from his last outing in a collegiate game.

Ebner showed promise in 2024 while participating in the Cape Cod League over the summer. He pitched 23 ⅔ innings and finished with a 1.90 ERA and 22 strikeouts with just eight hits allowed. He managed an impressive 0.59 WHIP as well. USC was hopeful to keep Ebner around for the 2027 season and potentially work him into the weekend rotation after working in the midweek role in the past.

The Ducks could use another bullpen arm after Devin Bell exhausted his eligibility and Collin Clarke entered the transfer portal. Cal Scolari is also likely to be selected in the upcoming MLB draft, opening up a rotation spot. At the very least, the USC transfer will be a dependable piece in the bullpen for Oregon next year. However, just like the rotation and midweek role evolved for the Ducks in 2026, don't be surprised if Ebner develops into a starting piece.

Ebner will come to Oregon as a redshirt senior and will need to continue to focus on building his arm strength up before the season rolls around in February. Through a compact delivery, Ebner throws a low-90s fastball and a mid-80s cutter. He also has a sharp curveball and changeup to throw hitters off.

Oregon now has four transfer commits so far this offseason. Division II transfer outfielder Jake Books and Tucker Jones, as well as Long Beach State infielder Jake Evans, make up Oregon's offseason haul so far, alongside Ebner.
