It’s not very often that you see three No.1 overall picks on an NBA roster at the same time, but the Dallas Mavericks and the Washington Wizards have both managed to pull that off this offseason. There are 14 No. 1 overall picks in the NBA currently, and with the Mavericks acquiring Zaccharie Risacher from the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal on Sunday, they and the Wizards have six of them.

It’s incredible how LeBron James has outlasted the seven No. 1 picks after him. James could join the Mavericks or the Wizards to add to their tally, but it’s highly unlikely he will go to either of those teams. They will remain at six.
Kyrie Irving, whom the Cleveland Cavaliers had selected with the No.1 pick in 2011, is the first of them, and he’s been with the Mavericks since February 2023. We haven’t seen Irving in action since he tore his ACL back in March 2025, though. You wondered if the nine-time All-Star would be on the move this summer since the Mavericks are rebuilding, but it doesn’t look like they’re interested in trading him.
Someone the Mavericks did trade away in 2026 was Anthony Davis, whom the New Orleans Hornets had selected with the No. 1 pick in 2012. They sent Davis to the Wizards back in February. Ever since that move was made, though, there has been chatter about the 10-time All-Star wanting out of Washington.
It doesn’t look like Davis will be going anywhere, however, as Wizards GM Will Dawkins recently came out and said the big man wants to be in Washington. Dawkins also made it clear that they want him to keep him, so that’s that.
Now, buzz about a Davis trade this offseason had grown because they had acquired Deandre Ayton from the Los Angeles Lakers. With Alex Sarr also on the team, it appeared they might be preparing for the 33-year-old’s departure, but they aren’t.
Ayton is going to be coming off the bench for the Wizards, and it’s safe to say he hasn’t lived up to the hype. The Phoenix Suns had selected him with the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, but he never even came close to being regarded as a star. The Wizards are the fourth team Ayton is going to be playing for, and you’d imagine he’ll be moving around a lot in the coming years.
Ayton was actually the last No. 1 pick to be traded away by the team that drafted him before Risacher. Neither of these trades was much of a surprise.
The Hawks had selected Risacher with the No. 1 pick in 2024, and to say he underwhelmed would be an understatement. He saw his role reduced in his sophomore season and barely featured in the 2026 playoffs. It was crystal clear that Hawks head coach Quin Snyder wasn’t Risacher’s biggest fan, and it will be interesting to see if a fresh start in Dallas helps him.
Risacher will be teaming up with Cooper Flagg, who has lived up to all the hype. The Mavericks selected Flagg with the No. 1 pick in 2025, and he went on to win Rookie of the Year. He is going to become a superstar one day.
Now, if you haven’t put it together, the Mavericks had three No. 1 picks on their roster last season, too, with Flagg, Irving, and Davis. It’s a shame we never got to see them play together because of Kyrie’s injury.
Last but not least, we get to AJ Dybantsa, whom the Wizards selected with the No. 1 pick in 2026. Dybantsa scored 50 points over his two Summer League games, and it’s clear he has a whole lot of talent. Will he turn into a superstar, too? Well, only time will tell.
