Justin Patrick, who led Westerville Central’s girls basketball team to two district runner-up finishes and a league title in the competitive OCC-Ohio, has been named the next coach at Olentangy pending board approval.
Olentangy athletic director Jonny Henesy announced the hire July 2.
Patrick succeeds Klarke Ransome, who left in May to take over the women’s program at Ohio Dominican University. The Braves were Division I regional runners-up each of the past two years, Ransome’s only seasons with the program.
Patrick went 52-38 in four seasons at Central, including Division II district runner-up finishes each of the past two years.
Central improved from 9-11 in Patrick’s first season of 2022-23 to 17-6 the next year.

“His proven track record of building successful programs, developing student-athletes and leading teams at the highest levels makes him an outstanding fit,” Henesy said in a release announcing the hire.
A 2005 graduate of Westland, Patrick was a two-time NAIA All-American and four-year starter at Shawnee State, played semi-professionally in the U.S. and with the AEK Basketball Club in Sweden before stints as an assistant coach with the Groveport and Westland boys programs and Grandview Heights’ girls.
Ransome went 131-25 in six seasons at Marysville (2020-24) and Olentangy.
Despite the graduation of all-state point guard and Kent State signee Whitney Stafford, the cupboard is not bare for the Braves.
Senior guard and Loyola Chicago commit Kareena Agrawal returns, as do senior forward and Grove City College commit Payton Kolberg and junior guard Ava Alexander.
