Ole Miss sophomore catcher Austin Fawley had a pair of extra-base hits Sunday afternoon against Oklahoma – including his team-leading 15th home run – as the No. 23 Rebels avoided a sweep against the No. 21 Sooners with a 7-3 win in the finale of their three-game series in Norman, Oklahoma.

Fawley has hit home runs in nine of the Rebels’ (33-15, 13-11 SEC) last 14 games.

Senior starter Mason Nichols pitched 1 2/3 innings before giving way to junior Mason Morris. Morris went 3 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run with four strikeouts and a walk.

Fawley tied the game in the top of the second inning with a solo home run to deep left, his second longball in as many days. Nichols issued a trio of walks and loaded the bases with two outs in the second, bringing Morris in. Morris forced Oklahoma’s (32-14, 13-11) Easton Carmichael into a groundout to end the inning.

Ole Miss got runners to the corners with no outs in the third, and junior third baseman Luke Hill drove senior shortstop Luke Cheng in with a single to right that gave Ole Miss its first lead of the series. The Rebels scored another run with two outs in the inning on a Sooners error. Senior left fielder Mitchell Sanford’s two-out RBI single in the fourth made it a 4-1 Ole Miss lead.

Oklahoma scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to trim the deficit to two, though the Rebels responded with two runs in the fifth on RBIs from junior second baseman Judd Utermark and freshman pinch-hitter Hayden Federico. The Rebels and Sooners added one run apiece in the seventh.

Rebels junior Will McCausland pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run. Senior closer Connor Spencer retired the Sooners in order in the ninth.

Ole Miss begins a three-game series at Mississippi State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
