The Arizona Cardinals agreed to terms with tackle/guard Matt Pryor on a one-year, veteran qualifying contract for the league minimum.

Qualifying contracts result in only a portion of the base salary counting against the salary cap. Pryor’s minimum base salary is $1.3 million, but only $1.075 million (the league minimum for players with two credited seasons) is charged to the cap.

The maximum allowed for a signing bonus is $187,500. That’s what Pryor will receive and it is added to the cap charge.

That makes the total value of his contract $1,487,500 with $1,262,500 counting against the cap.

It’s important to realize that with the contracts and cap hits known for Pryor, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne ($4.78 million), running back Tyler Allgeier ($4.35 million) and defensive lineman Roy Lopez ($4.39 million), four cap charges of $1.005 million, $1.017 million, $1.039 million and $1.048 million were pushed out of the top 51, which is what counts against the cap until the beginning of the regular season.

So, while the total cap charges for the four new players is $14.783 million, the net addition to the cap is $10.674 million because of the players exiting the top 51.

Contracts not yet official are restructures for running back James Conner and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting that will lower their cap figures from $9.83 and $9.245 million respectively, plus new deals for guard Isaac Seumalo, punter Blake Gillikin and quarterback Gardner Minshew.

Overthecap.com currently has the Cardinals' cap space at $36.678 million, but with effective space of $25.154 million projecting the team’s rookie pool for draft choices.
