The Oklahoma Sooners are nearing decision day for three-star safety out of Texas, Jaiden Fields. With his official visits complete, Fields has announced a commitment date of Tuesday, July 7. The Sooners are right in the thick of the race for Fields' commitment after Sam Spiegelman of Rivals and Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop.com issued predictions favoring the Sooners on Sunday and Monday.
Oklahoma will have to carry that momentum for the next week and hold off last-minute overtures from Texas A&M, Stanford, TCU, and SMU to close the deal.
The Sooners are looking to add Fields at safety, where he displays the ability to shine in coverage and in run defense. He has the speed and athleticism to patrol the back end and to put his foot in the ground and attack in the running game. Fields also plays wide receiver, which is on display with natural ball skills and an understanding of route concepts and timing.
Fields' athleticism combined with his mental makeup makes him a great fit for what the Sooners want to do in the back end of their defense.
