The Oklahoma Sooners earned a series win over the Auburn Tigers with an 8-5 victory on Saturday. The Auburn Tigers once again threatened the Sooners with an impressive power display, but Oklahoma's offense rallied for five runs in the fifth and sixth to gut out the win.
Miali Guachino had as much trouble keeping the ball in the park as Audrey Lowry did on Friday night, allowing three home runs. Auburn built a 5-1 lead through 2 1/2 innings. But the Sooners responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and Guachino threw a scoreless fourth to keep the game 5-3.
Freshman Allyssa Parker took over in the fifth and threw three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out three to keep the Sooners in the game. After Oklahoma took the lead in the sixth, Parker shut it down with a scoreless seventh to move to 4-0 on the season. In two games against the Tigers, Parker has thrown five scoreless innings and allowed just four hits and a walk.
From the plate, the Sooners only hit one home run, a two-run shot from Kasidi Pickering, who had a two-hit day for the Sooners. That cut Auburn's lead to 5-3.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Sooners used some clutch two-out hitting. Kai Minor drove in Kendall Wells when Auburn misplayed a ball in the outfield, and Kai Minor sped around to third for a triple. Isabela Emerling singled to bring home Minor to tie the game at five apiece.
In the sixth, Oklahoma took advantage of a leadoff double from Abby Dayton. Pickering walked and Dayton advanced on a wild pitch to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Wells scored Dayton on a ground out to give Oklahoma the 6-5 lead. Gabbie Garcia added to the lead with a double to make it 7-5. Minor reached on an error and then stole second to put runners on second and third with two outs. Back-to-back walks from Emerling and Ailana Agabayani made it 8-5 Sooners heading into the seventh.
Parker worked the scoreless seventh to close out the game and get the win.
The Oklahoma Sooners and Auburn Tigers will close out the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
