The Oklahoma Sooners lost Kasidi Pickering to the transfer portal on Monday, but there's been plenty of good news coming Oklahoma's way in the first week of the portal. Earlier in the week, Kai Minor, Allyssa Parker, and Miali Guachino signaled their return on Instagram. Now another Sooners star looks like she'll be returning for 2026-2027 as well.
According to an Instagram post, star shortstop Gabbie Garcia is expected to return to OU in 2027. Garcia said, "See you in August," then quoted hip-hop artist J. Cole: "There's beauty in the struggle." She then added, "The highs are great, but the growth happens in the grind. Grateful for it all."
Garcia followed up a freshman season in which she led the Sooners with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs to set new career highs as a sophomore with 22 home runs and 74 RBIs, finishing second on the team in both categories.
Garcia earned All-SEC honors and All-SEC defensive team honors in 2026 for her work at shortstop. She also earned All-American honors from Softball America and the NFCA.
Garcia's first two seasons might have ended earlier than anyone expected for the Oklahoma Sooners, but she's done her part to help the Sooners win back-to-back regular season SEC titles and put together a pair of great seasons in Norman. Now it looks like Oklahoma will have one of its stars back, looking to make a run in 2027.
