The Oklahoma Sooners moved to 35-3 on the season with a 12-3 run-rule win over Wichita State after a seven-game road trip. Kendall Wells hit her 27th home run of the season, breaking the SEC single-season home run record.
The Sooners jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning when Kai Minor opened the game with a lead-off walk and advanced to third on Ella Parker's groundout. Minor later scored on a fielding error by Wichita State, allowing Gabbie Garcia to reach base and Kendall Wells to advance to third. Kasidi Pickering, who went 1-for-12 against LSU, doubled to bring in Garcia and Wells to make it 3-0 and then scored on Ailana Agbayani's single to make it 4-0.
Sydney Berzon got the start and threw two scoreless innings to open the game, but ran into trouble in the third. Berzon allowed a solo home run to Ausha Moore and a two-run shot to Kammie Smith to cut the Sooners' lead to one.
Berzon's night was done after the third. Audrey Lowry came in and threw three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out one to move to 16-1 on the season.
After being held scoreless in the fourth, the Sooners got solo home runs from Pickering and Agbayani to extend their lead to 6-3 in the fifth. It was Pickering's 14th home run of the year and Agbayani's sixth of the season.
In the sixth, the Sooners ran away from the Shockers with a six-run inning to earn the run-rule victory. Abby Dayton walked to lead off the inning, and Ella Parker singled to put runners on first and third. Tia Milloy, pinch running for Parker, stole second, putting a pair of runners in scoring position for Kendall Wells. Wells launched an opposite field home run down the right field line to put Oklahoma up 9-3. After Lexi McDaniel and Pickering singled, Isabela Emerling finished off Wichita State with a three-run home run of her own, her 13th of the season, to walk it off and earn the run-rule victory.
The Sooners are now up to 137 home runs on the season, just 21 away from tying the single-season home run record of 158 set by the 2021 Oklahoma Sooners. Wells, who set the SEC single-season record, pulled to within 11 of the single-season home run record of 38.
After her mini slump in Baton Rouge, Pickering responded with a 3-for-4 day with a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Emerling also went 3-for-4, and Agbayani was 3-for-3 on the evening. Parker was 2-for-4 in the win with a double.
The Sooners now prepare for the Kentucky Wildcats to come to town for a three-game series starting on Thursday evening.
