OKC Thunder's Mark Daigneault to join USA Basketball as assistant coach, per report

OKC Thunder coach Mark Daigneault is expected to be named an assistant coach for USA Basketball, according to an ESPN report Tuesday.

Also joining Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra's staff on the national team will be Detroit Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff and Gonzaga coach Mark Few.

Daigneault has quickly climbed the ranks of coaching. He was hired as OKC's head coach in 2020 at age 35, making him the second-youngest head coach in the NBA at the time. He has since led the Thunder to its first championship in franchise history and three straight seasons of at least 57 wins.

The United States men's basketball team has won five straight Olympic gold medals. That includes the 2024 Paris Olympics, where it earned a 98-87 win over France in the championship game.
