Calvin Pace.

He has all the measureables. He is faster than Suggs, stronger, and a better athlete.

....but I had him going in the third round in my mock, so obviously he was a guy on my radar, but not in the 1st round. His stock was jumping dramatically, and it looks like the Cards took him because he was their best available defensive end.

Really???

Here is what they say about him...

Calvin Pace
SELECTED BY ARIZONA , ROUND 1, PICK 18, OVERALL PICK 18
DE | (6-4, 269, 4.75) | WAKE FOREST
By Pro Football Weekly

Negatives :Lacking in the areas of health, size and speed. Is quick but not fast or sudden and doesn't have the speed to get around the edge. Is inconsistent in terms of effort and can disappear against top offensive tackles. Doesn't change directions well and would struggle at linebacker

If Pace was so good why not Suggs???

something was going on with pace...from the time the sporting news put out their publication (printed like 3 weeks ago) until the updated version was done on their website this week..he jumped like from the 104th best player to like the 38th best player in the draft.. I heard this from a caller on the radio who has access to both...and he was last rated as possibly moving higher..

He ran a 4.6 at his workout at Wake Forest. He was a guy that has been on my radar screen....just watch him play. I watch a lot of ACC football (and yes I do watch some Wake Forest) and he was one of the better defenders in the ACC the past two years.

My old hometown in NC, is Wake Forest. University of Wake Forest existed there until 1944 when it moved to Winston Salem, NC. Tim Duncan played college ball there.

Pace could have been had in the 2nd, Late 2nd even early 3rd.

Graves paniced when he tried to get too cute.

any chance since pace played on from what I understand a pretty weak line against stronger teams..any chance he was double teamed constantly? Of course suggs was also...

NFL | C. Pace Continues To Rise - from www.KFFL.com
Fri, 21 Mar 2003 11:33:26 -0800

Updating previous reports, Len Pasquarelli reports for ESPN.com the draft stock of Wake Forest DE Calvin Pace continues to rise. At his workout this week, Pace weighed 267 pounds, ran in the mid-4.6s, and demonstrated surprisingly good skills in linebacker drills. He is garnering plenty of looks from the 3-4 defense teams.

He was definitely going in the second round after his workouts.

from what I understand..the cardinals thought pace would be picked by KC with the pick they swapped with philadelphia..appears chiefs would have not picked pace though..

Would have, could have, should have...

I don't have much of a problem with who the Cardinals took as much as what they did to get the picks. I have a feeling that no matter how incompetent the Cards management is they are in a better position to speculate when players would have been taken. The Chiefs took Larry Johnson, but that is not to say they would have taken him if Pace was on the board.

A better have these first-round draft picks signed and in camp 1st day.

Anybody taking bets?

I hope they lock to the doors to the warroom and don't let Graves in on Sunday.

Maybe early 2nd. There is no way that he would have dropped to late 2nd or 3rd. No way.
