The top two teams in the preseason AP Top 25 are the same top two teams in the preseason coaches poll.
Ohio State and Oregon led the first iteration of the 2026 college football AP poll on Monday. The Buckeyes got 40 first-place votes while the Ducks got 14.
Georgia followed the two Big Ten teams in the top five but didn’t receive any first-place votes. Notre Dame was fourth with six first-place votes and Texas was voted fifth.
Defending national champion Indiana is sixth and received eight first-place votes. Miami, who lost to Indiana in the national title game in January, is seventh and got one first-place vote.
No other teams received votes for the top spot. The top 10 was filled out by the SEC with Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Oklahoma. All three teams made the College Football Playoff a season ago.
While the Big Ten has three teams in the top six of the poll, the SEC has half of the top 10 and seven of the top 13 teams in the AP poll. LSU is at No. 11 and Alabama is at No. 13.
The highest-ranked Big 12 school is Texas Tech at No. 12. The Red Raiders are two spots ahead of BYU, who got exactly 839 points along with USC in a tie for 14th.
Overall, the SEC has nine teams in the AP Top 25 and the Big Ten has eight. The Big 12 has four teams in the top 25 and the ACC has three. Clemson, the No. 4 team in last season’s preseason AP poll before stumbling to a 7-6 season, was the top vote-getter among the teams that failed to make the top 25.
