Official: Roma Signs Santiago Castro

In a summer where Roma spent weeks chasing unrealistic or unseemly targets, it’s only fitting that their first official signing was also delayed. Nearly a week after word spread that the Giallorossi had reached an agreement with Santiago Castro, the now-former Bologna striker was officially unveiled as the latest member of Gian Piero Gasperini’s merry band of attackers.

Castro, 21, arrives in Roma after spending the previous two-and-a-half seasons with Bologna, where he scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 105 appearances after joining the Rossoblu from Vélez Sarsfield in the winter of 2024. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, it has been widely reported that Roma will pay €35 million for the Argentine forward, signing him to a five-year deal.

Castro will wear the number nine shirt, formerly owned by Artem Dovbyk, who, in a separate transaction, moved to Bologna on loan with an option to buy.

We’ll tackle all the tactical permutations of the Castro signing in the coming days, but needless to say, he has a lot of potential.
