Introduction
The teams involved are selected based on qualification rules set by their respective leagues.
On April 28, 2010, MLS announced that for the upcoming 2010 season the top four teams, still based on the 2009 MLS regular season standings, but who are not competing in the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League, will qualify for SuperLiga 2010. That ruling means that 3 of the top four teams from the 2009 MLS regular season, the Columbus Crew (Supporters' Shield Winners), Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS Cup Runners-up) and the Seattle Sounders (US Open Cup Winners), who have already qualified for the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League, are not eligible to participate in the Superliga 2010.
