Any new rumors about Hendrickson and the Cards after Sweat signing

I highly doubt that the Cardinals will pursue Hendrickson now that Sweat and Browning have been signed. They have other holes that need to be addressed at this point.

they still have money they can spend. Where though? Edge is done, Im not sure who i worth signing at DT and it looks like They are just bringing back the same Oline.

So that leaves ILB. Does anyone know if there exist any good ILB besides the great Kyzir White?

RG, ILB, WR and NT are probably their biggest targets in FA now.

A @kerouac9 level OOF from Kyle. Lets hope he's wrong on this one.

Signed edge rusher Josh Sweat (4 years, $76.4 million, $41 million guaranteed)
Grade: D

Analysis: This is such a Cardinals move. They missed out on the crown jewel of the free agent defensive line crop – Milton Williams – and instead overpaid for an edge who is a solid player, but is not going to inject fear into opposing linemen.

Sweat can both rush the passer and defend the run at an above average level, so he’s a useful piece, but the Cardinals needed a game-wrecker.

I fully believe Sweat was a product of a dominant defensive line, as he didn’t get nearly the attention of most standout edge-rushers since Philly was so good everywhere else. The Cardinals’ defensive front is substantially worse, and Sweat’s effectiveness will be affected by the move.

The market for Sweat clearly was not super hot, and the Cardinals made a mistake here after missing out on Williams. The smart move would have been to trade for Trey Hendrickson, who is leaps and bounds better than Sweat despite being 30 years old.

Don’t be surprised if Baron Browning is the more effective pass-rusher for the Cardinals in 2025.
There was no one available in free agency -- including Milton Williams -- who was going to "inject fear into opposing linemen." There was no "game-wrecker."

Player is fine, deal is fine. The 2022 Eagles had four players with 11+ sacks. The 2024 Arizona Cardinals had one player with 5 sacks. :barf:

I said it before the signing, and it's still true: Sweat helps the pass rush but doesn't solve the problem.

Biggest need right now is ILB. They gotta sign somebody, because they don't have a starter on the roster. Next biggest needs are Guard and WR. I'm assuming 1st or 2nd round in the draft will go to a DT, hopefully Grant or Nolan.

I miss the Keimtime days of drafting and signing ILBs, like he was hoarding the last of their kind.

man i gotta be the only guy in here who doesn't have receiver on our priorities list
U must be comfortable with Wilson wr2 and Dortch wr3
Considering Marvin didnt have a great rookie season
WR is still not a strong corp at today

You are not, but I was compelled by the argument that the Cards have one of the three worst receiving corps in the conference.
that definitely does say something - i don't think it'll continue this year tho

Man we have to hit on one or two DL in this draft. The money some of these lower end guys are getting is pretty crazy.

There's no one on the market I really want. May as well just throw our hat into the ring in the draft for a WR3/competition for WR2.

I wouldn't be angry with bringing back DHop for cheap or something, or trying to upgrade WR4 with a bare bones guy, but otherwise I'm not investing much in this free agent class.

Maybe they’re going to move Collins back inside. Thoughts?

yup. they still need to go get another edge in round 1 or 2 and hopefully, finally edge by committee with multiple guys getting 6-8 sacks can register a consistent pass-rush. I saw that theory bounded about a lot, but people were talking about the Gardeck/Collins/BJ/Dimukeje guys reaching 6-8 sacks, which was fantasy. I mean, that group is the least fearsome foursome at edge I can ever imagine.

Now, hopefully our edge looks more like Sweat/1st Round Edge (i'd go here again, or a DT)/Browning/BJ. Is that the best edge group in the league? no. but it's a hell of a lot better than what we had, assuming we actually get someone halway decent at 16 at either DT/Edge.

Josh Palmer would have been nice. Buffalo signed him.
