CLEVELAND — The debuts are coming for the Mets.
After a transformative trade deadline on Monday, the club enters Tuesday's 6:40 p.m. matchup with the Guardians with a totally overhauled bullpen. Within the call-ups to replace the four relievers were dealt include Nate Lavender and Jefry Yan for the Mets.
"I think that day when you're making calls to people who you shared a dugout with, who gave you what they had on a daily basis and in many cases pitched incredibly well for us, it was a tough day," Mets interim manager Andy Green said. "A lot of tough conversations. Then the other side of that is the understanding that new guys are going to get a real opportunity."
The new-look Mets will be looking to avoid slipping to a season-worst 20 games under .500 on Tuesday. They enter the series opener with a 47-66 record, while the Guardians hold the AL's final wild card spot at 57-56.
Sean Manaea will be looking off his last two starts for the Mets. He has turned in back-to-back quality starts against the Dodgers and Braves including last time out when he held the Phillies to two earned runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts across six innings.
The Guardians have left-hander Joey Cantillo on the mound on Tuesday. He carries an 8-6 record and 3.88 ERA into the start.
