NEW YORK — Bo Bichette saw a different environment at Citi Field than anything he had experienced in his previous two and a half months with the Mets.
With Bichette providing the spark and a near-capacity crowd, the electricity was palpable. A victory over the Braves helped to appease the home crowd.
"I think individually you have a little bit more juice already knowing you're playing the best team," Bichette said. "It's in division. You're going to have to bring it if you want to win. Coming out and seeing the crowd how it was, I don't know if I've really seen that all year, so it was exciting walking out there in the first inning and seeing it."
After a rousing win in the series opener, the Mets will look to clinch a series win over the Braves at 4:10 p.m. Saturday at Citi Field.
Bichette has served as the catalyst in back-to-back wins, powering three home runs and driving in a combined eight runs in those two games against the Cardinals and Braves.
The Mets (31-38) remain 14 games back of the NL East following Friday night's win but can continue to gain crowd. The Braves have now dropped three straight games. Another loss would mark their longest losing streak of the season.
Sean Manaea will be making his first start of the season for the Mets after spending the campaign coming out of the bullpen.
The left-hander is 1-1 with a 5.02 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 43 innings across 14 appearances this season. Manaea has been more efficient over the last month after a rocky start, allowing seven earned runs in 19⅔ innings with a 1.12 WHIP across his last five appearances.
The Braves will go with left-hander Martin Perez on Saturday. The 35-year-old is 4-3 with a 3.02 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 13 games including nine starts.
