BABYFACE IRISH​

Much has been made about the new NCAA “5 for 5” rule and the resulting effect of keeping 26 year old players from playing college football. Since the transfer portal came into play, programs that have been able to get older overnight generally find more success in the next season. Even before the portal, teams like Stanford were good for a number of years because they operated under the mantra of “get old and stay old”.

I say all of that, and Notre Dame is one of the favorites to win the national championship while being one of the youngest teams in the entire country. The Irish rank 126 in age with an average of 19.97. For comparison, Ohio State is 128 (19.95) and Texas is 134 (19.86). The oldest Power Four team is Oklahoma State at 9 (20.74).

I RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE​

Greg McElroy has a scenario where a 10-2 Notre Dame team still makes the college football playoff. I completely disagree for two reasons:

1. Notre Dame isn’t losing a game this year and fiction is in a different aisle.
2. They will punish ND at the drop of a hat after the fuss from last year.
