Notre Dame is off to a flying start for their 2027 class which picked up a commitment this week, and it looks like a highly-touted safety could be the next one to join.
The Irish continue to be a serious contender for Zayden Gamble, one of the top defensive back prospects in the 2027 class. Gamble recently released his top-4 list and it also includes Ohio State, Miami, and Florida. That kind of list is no surprise for a player of his caliber. Even with tough competition, Notre Dame seems to be in a good place as On3's Blue & Gold recruiting service have submitted their predictions for Gamble to eventually pick the Irish (sub required) as his college destination.
Gamble is a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite. He is ranked as the No. 18 safety in the country as the No. 193 player in the 2027 class. At 5-foot, 11-inches and 190-pounds, a bit smaller than the Irish normally like out of the position, but he clearly checks all the boxes.
Gamble has already set his commitment date for July 16, which also happens to be his birthday. That timing should give him a moment that is personal and highly anticipated, with all four teams continuing to make their case of why he should join them right up until the announcement date.
For Notre Dame, landing Gamble would be another significant win on the recruiting trail for Marcus Freeman and new defensive backs coach Aaron Henry, and a signal that the Irish remain competitive for top national defensive talent.
