Notre Dame has added another major piece to its future backfield, as it added to an already impressive start to the 2027 recruiting cycle.

Isaiah Rogers, one of the nation’s top running backs, announced Monday that he has committed to the Irish, giving coach Marcus Freeman and his staff an early boost in the cycle. Rogers had become a priority target for Notre Dame after drawing interest from several major programs, but the Irish built steady momentum throughout the recruiting process and emerged as the projected landing spot heading into his decision.

He’s currently ranked as a four-star in the latest 247Sports Composite rankings, and is listed as the No. 15 running back in the 2027 class as well as No. 237 overall. His recruitment drew attention from national programs, with Notre Dame competing against several schools that made a strong early push.

However, the Irish staff, led by Freeman and running backs coach Deland McCullough, stayed consistent in its communication and made Rogers a key part of its long-term vision for the offense. Isaiah visited Notre Dame in March and had a lot of praise for the program. “My experience was great,” Rogers told On3's Steve Wiltfong immediately following the trip. “What excites me is the coaches and the environment and I definitely want to get back. What excites me about playing for Coach Marcus Freeman is that I’m going to get developed on and off the field and prepared for the next level.

Notre Dame has increasingly targeted versatile offensive players in recent classes, and Rogers fits the profile of a back who can thrive in multiple schemes. Rogers is a multi-sport athlete who has been a multiple time state qualifier in the indoor 55-meter dash. His commitment would give the Irish one of the early highlights of their 2027 class and further strengthen a position group that remains central to the program’s identity. Notre Dame recently also received the commitment of running back Lathan Whisenton and have now solidified their running back acquisitions in this class.

For Notre Dame, landing Rogers represents more than just an addition at running back. It signals that the identification of prospects and the aggressive pursuit after continues to pay off.
