The Arizona State football team is coming off an 8-5 showing in 2025. So it's not surprising that the Sun Devils are not ranked in the initial AP poll of the season, released Monday, Aug. 17. They were also unranked in the US LBM coaches poll released Aug. 4.

But at least the US LBM poll delivered some votes. The AP poll showed at least one vote for Cal (2), Western Michigan (1) and Liberty (1), but not one for Kenny Dillingham's team.

The Arizona Wildcats received 32 votes, fourth among those not cracking the Top 25.

ASU went into the 2025 campaign ranked No. 11 in the AP poll, on the heels of its unexpected Big 12 title run in 2024. The Sun Devils didn't quite live up to expectations, despite having 16 starters returning.

That 2025 preseason ranking marked the 25th time in school history that the Sun Devils were ranked before the season opener. After three weeks and with a 2-1 record, ASU fell out of both polls and didn't return to the rankings. ASU was one of 12 teams that started the 2025 season ranked in the AP poll but were not by the end.

There are four Big 12 teams inside the Top 25. They are defending champion Texas Tech (12), BYU (14), Utah (21) and Houston (23).

ASU opens the season on Sept. 5 against Morgan State at Mountain America Stadium.
