The World Cup match between Norway and Senegal in East Rutherford could see showers with potentially heavy rainfall, but spectators will need to leave their umbrellas behind.

MetLife Stadium, known as New York New Jersey Stadium for a few weeks even though the venue is in New Jersey, prohibits umbrellas, along with anything else that could be used as a projectile, according to its guest policy.

It leaves spectators to bring rain ponchos. Norway is scheduled to play Senegal June 22 at 8 p.m. as part of the group stage. And the game increasingly looks like it will be played in the rain.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch, along with the potential for thunderstorms, from June 22, 2 p.m. to June 23, 6 a.m. It could leave more than 1 inch of rain, forecasters said.

The weather could result in delays. While the World Cup is played rain or shine, FIFA has a 30-minute mandatory delay if there is a lightning strike within eight to 10 miles of the stadium. Each subsequent strike adds another half-hour to the delay, USA TODAY reported.

Extreme heat has created more delays. FIFA has introduced mandatory hydration breaks midway through the first and second half of every World Cup match.

The storms are expected to clear out on June 23 before 8 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
