Norway was in mourning on Wednesday for twice Olympic rowing champion Olaf Tufte, who died the previous day aged 50.
He was the most successful rower in the country's history, having won Olympic gold in single skulls in 2004 and 2008 as well as 2000 silver in double skulls and a bronze in the same event in 2016.
Media reports said Tufte, also a farmer, was found unconscious in his yard and died at a hospital in Oslo. He leaves a wife and two children.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said in a statement: "Tufte brought immense joy through sport to us as a nation. He was one of Norway’s greatest sporting heroes, a decorated Summer Olympian, one of the finest rowers we have ever had, and a great role model to many. My deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones."
