EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The viral "Viking row" that has become the lifeforce of Norway at the 2026 World Cup has gone so mainstream that even the players are getting in on the fun.
Following Norway's 3-2 victory over Senegal on Monday, June 22, the players – exhausted after 10 minutes of stoppage time – led the dedicated fan section in the maneuver.
A bass drum made its way onto the pitch and Martin Ødegaard grabbed a mallet. His teammates sat themselves on the ground and mimed being in a rowboat, as the fans normally do in the stands. Ødegaard banged the drum twice and everyone, from the stands to those on the field, rowed simultaneously.
It wasn't Times Square or the Boston metro system, but it was a sight to behold.
Erling Haaland scored twice for the second straight game and Marcus Holmgren Pedersen opened the scoring for Norway.
Norway next plays Friday, June 26, against France to wrap up Group I play. Both teams have already qualified for the knockout stage.
