ABERDEEN, S.D. (KELO) — The Northern State men hit the reset button in the coaches office last April, following a tough 2-26 season, that saw the team fall short of making the NSIC playoffs.
The Wolves went out and hired former longtime Dakota Wesleyan head coach, Matt Wilber. He went to work right away on the team and has helped turn them around.
Northern went 12-10 in the NSIC, good enough for seventh in the standings and a home playoff game. The Wolves were 7-8 in the conference, but closed the year by winning five of their last seven games.
“The GPS reroute as the year is going on, you just keep hitting that and going hey, ‘what can we do best?’,” Wilber said. “We had a chance to win some game and maybe win the North Division and then that didn’t happen. But our guys kept coming back every week.”
The Wolves will battle MSU-Moorhead in the NSIC Playoffs Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
