Florida State beat Miami in extra innings, coming from behind for the win

No. 11 Florida State finished out the regular season with a series win over Miami, notching an 11-1 run-rule win Friday — the Seminoles will enter the ACC Tournament as the No. 3 seed:

Softball​

No. 9 Florida State’s season came to an end Sunday in the Tallahassee Regional, with UCF winning the decisive final game 3-2 to advance to Super Regionals. FSU had worked its way back from a Friday loss to Stetson (8-3), winning a Saturday doubleheader over Jacksonville State (11-0) and Stetson (11-3) and winning one game against UCF (2-1) before falling to the Knights on Sunday:

Football​

Jordan Silversmith wrote up a profile on Florida State freshman Devin Carter, the legacy receive who had a standout spring and has all signs pointing towards him being ready to contribute immediately:

“I came in knowing what I could do, as long as I worked hard and did what the coaches asked me. It’s a good feeling to be able to have the opportunity to make plays like I’m having right now. All I’m going to do is capitalize on those opportunities, and I’m not going to be surprised at what I do because I’ve been working for this. I’m ready for it, for whatever opportunity comes, and I’ll take advantage of it.”

Florida State track and field, got a gold-medal performance Friday from freshman Despiro Wray, closed the ACC Outdoor Championship Saturday in Louisville on Sunday:

Freshman Despiro Wray started off day two in the men’s shotput, capturing gold with a new personal best and the sixth-furthest throw in program history at 18.58 meters. Wray became the first shotput champion since 2018 and was just the second freshman in program history to win the event.

Shenese Walker was named the Women’s MVP for the second straight year after pulling off the double victory once again in the sprints with 20 total points. Walker competed in the women’s 100, winning with a time of 11.07 to extend Florida State’s win streak in the event to six straight. She concluded her night in the women’s 200 with a personal best time and sixth-fastest time in program history at 22.65.

Shamar Reid started off the day strong for Florida State in the men’s discus throw taking home the title after breaking the 46-year-old record that was set by Cooper in 1979 with a new personal best of 65.87 meters. Reid became the first champion in the event since 2023 and the fifth-overall in program history.

Kyvon Tatham competed in his final conference championship, adding eight points to the men’s score in the triple jump with a mark of 16.01 meters for a second-place finish.

Neo Mosebi captured gold in the men’s 100 for the second straight year, crossing the line first tying the eighth-fastest time in program history with a new personal best of 9.98. Mosebi concluded his night in the men’s 200, placing third with a time of 20.80. Durian Moss placed third with a career-best time of 10.11.

The women’s 4×100 relay of Durian Moss, Neo Mosebi, Justin Woulard and Curtis Williams placed second with a time of 39.25. The women’s relay finished in similar fashion behind Lucy May Sleeman, Shenese Walker, Liana Tyson and Micayah Holland with the fourth-fastest time in program history at 42.96.

Zach Extine led Florida State in the men’s 110 hurdles, placing second with the fourth-fastest time in program history at 13.32, followed by Andre Korbmacher in third at 13.36.

The men’s team finished in second with 96 points, while the women placed fourth with 68 points.

Florida State will send qualifying members to the NCAA East Preliminary round on May 27-30 in Lexington, Kentucky in hopes of punching a ticket to the NCAA Outdoor National Championship in Eugene, Oregon to conclude the outdoor season.

Florida State men’s golf opens the NCAA postseason Monday at the Columbus Regional:

The Seminoles, who drew the No. 5 seed among the 13-team field, are one of five ranked teams heading to Columbus. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, which will be held May 29-June 2 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.

This season, the Seminoles finished in the top five in six tournaments. FSU finished ACC stroke play in fifth place before making an appearance in the semifinal of match play.

The Seminoles will begin the round at 8:00 a.m. off the 10th tee.
