The 2025 Seattle Seahawks are quietly one of the most dominant Super Bowl champions in NFL history, and the most dominant since... the 2013 Seattle Seahawks. When Seattle moved on from beloved head coach Pete Carroll to Mike Macdonald, the message was clear: it was time to finally fix the defense.
It didn't take Macdonald long to get one of the worst units in the league to unquestionably the best. One area the Seahawks had struggled defending, specifically, was on the ground. For years in the final chapter of the Carroll era, the Seahawks would get pushed around by opposing rushing attacks. It took Macdonald eight games to figure out how to stop the bleeding on the ground. In fact, the Seahawks have now gone an astonishing 29 games without allowing an individual 100-yard rusher.
Seattle's remarkable turnaround with their run defense can be backed up with some impressive numbers. Per Pro Football Network, the Seahawks were the highest graded team when defending opposing rushing attacks.
Anchoring Seattle's elite run defense is the No. 1 defensive tackle in the entire National Football League: Leonard "Big Cat" Williams. Earlier on Thursday, Williams was given top honors at his position based on rankings by executives, coaches and scouts from around the league.
Of course, right next to him is rising star Byron Murphy II, who has been largely overlooked in his first two years in the league. Quite frankly, I think the Seahawks enjoy the "disrespect." It will allow them to maintain their chip on their collective shoulders and stay hungry as they look to defend their crown.
