Ondrej Palat was still a notable name when the New Jersey Devils signed him to a five-year contract in July 2022. Less than four years later, Palat has been dealt away from the team in the first major move for the organization prior to the March 6 deadline.

Palat, along with two draft picks, has been shipped off to the New York Islanders in exchange for right wing Maxim Tsyplakov. The Devils sent away their 2026 third round pick and 2027 sixth round pick in order to relieve themselves of his contract.

In 248 games played in New Jersey, Palat scored 38 goals and had 54 assists. Palat's production was well below his career average of 17 goals and 31 assists per season across his 14-year NHL career.

Tsyplakov is a 27-year old, left-handed forward with 11 goals and 26 assists across 104 career NHL games.
