The Islanders continue picking off pieces from their local rivals.

Just one day after landing veteran defenseman Carson Soucy in a deal with the Rangers, New York has reached an agreement with the Devils to acquire winger Ondrej Palat.

The Isles also receive a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick in exchange for Maxim Tsyplakov.

New Jersey is not retaining any of Palat's $6 million cap hit.

The 34-year-old Palat was held out of Tuesday night's game for “roster management” purposes.

Palat is headed to Long Island, where he'll have plenty of familiarity with first-year GM Mathieu Darche from their days together with the Lightning.

Palat, of course, joined New Jersey after leaving Tampa in free agency.

Things, however, haven’t quite worked out as planned, as the left winger battled injuries during his first year with the club and has ultimately seen his production drop off over the next two.

He’s posted just four goals and six assists through 51 games this season.

Palat also brings strong playoff experience, having racked up nine points in 17 career postseason games.

The third-place Islanders certainly hope that a change of scenery could help him return to his old form and provide a boost for their goal-scoring woes as they look to continue their spectacular season.

Parting with Tsyplakov is certainly interesting as he is still just 27 years old, but he hasn't quite been able to find much success during his second NHL season, producing just two points through 27 games.

The youngster did, however, score 10 times and added 25 assists during his strong rookie campaign.
