The Chargers re-signed Tony Jefferson to a one-year, $2 million deal Monday.

Jefferson is somewhat of a national treasure to Bolts fans as he came out of retirement in 2024 to play for the Chargers. Since then, he has returned on a one-year deal for the past two seasons and it remained unclear whether the fan favorite would return in 2026.

Lo and behold, Jefferson is back.

In the past two seasons with the Chargers, the safety has recorded 84 tackles (54 solo), four interceptions, seven pass breakups and two tackles for loss. At age 34, Jefferson set a career-high last season with four interceptions, which tied for third-most in the AFC.

Perhaps the most notable stat from Jefferson's performance last season was his passer rating just 36.7 in coverage, which ranking third among all safeties according to Pro Football Focus. He has worked with Chargers defensive coordinator Chris O'Leary before and will now play under him as Jefferson is set to provide depth for the unit.

Here's how the NFL world reacted on social media to the Chargers re-signing Jefferson:

Tony ending lives in Kansas City was the happiest I’ve been since the league banned Derwin from tackling https://t.co/LpwoShR3iV

New #Chargers DC Chris O’Leary and Tony Jefferson are very close, and the opportunity to play for O’Leary as he steps into an NFL coordinator role is something Jefferson wasn’t going to pass up. https://t.co/pYVdsKV44E

Best move so far this offseason

Became one of my favorite all time chargers after seeing him put the hit and run on Rashee Rice

Normally speaking out against your team ends bad. Not this time, good on you Tony.

Shoutout @Tljefferson23 man. One of the best comeback stories in recent NFL history.

From the Ravens scouting department in 2023, to year 3 with the Chargers in 2026 still playing at a high level.

How many players have been able to come back like that?

Chargers being hung up on 2$ mil for Tony Jefferson while giving Trey Pipkins 5, with Tony being a far more impactful player to the team last year is kinda crazy man. Glad Unc is back but the front office is sniffing that Columbian Rocket Fuel heavy this offseason lol

$52M in cap space after Jefferson signing.

Team needs a Guard-Edge-WR-TE-Guard. https://t.co/ihLjvkE6VB

This is such an underrated signing. You dont only get a dawg on Defense but you get a great character for the locker room, a great Vet that the young ones can look up to and you get an extra coach!

He should have been one of the first people to be signed back....

Chargers bringing back a lot of their own… from a very good team. (And people grumpin lol)

Needed a new OC and C, and we will have an entirely new IOL.
More to come… believe it.
