With just a month until training camp, the Pittsburgh Steelers roster seems largely set. The front office and new head coach Mike McCarthy have worked hard to bolster several positions of need. One spot that could still use an upgrade if available is wide receiver. This is despite adding Michael Pittman Jr. via trade and Germie Bernard via trade.

One receiver who might be on the trade market is San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk has had an ongoing drama-filled relationship with the 49ers but somehow remains on the team but not the current roster. Aiyuk has made it clear via social media that he's not playing for the 49ers this season and as with every veteran wide receiver, we have to talk about if they would fit on the Steelers.

NFL Network report Aditi Kinkhabwala was on 93.7 The Fan and thinks that if the price is right, there's no reason why the Steelers wouldn't try to trade for Aiyuk.

"I don't think he'll be available for next to nothing. But sure, if he is, why not?" Kinkhabwala said. "I mean, why wouldn't you?"

The why not of this deal is fairly obvious. The days of taking on wide receivers who are head cases ended with the Mike Tomlin era and it does not need to return. Aiyuk has two 1,000-yard receiving seasons but didn't play at all in 2025. The team that trades for him is taking on a huge risk and it just isn't a risk the Steelers need to take this season.
